The Year of the Big E

A friend once told me that “this year” is the Year of the Big E.

I immediately thought entrepreneur. She said it meant empowerment.

Very similar, I thought. Whether you decide to become an entrepreneur or an empowered person, both of them are about moving forward. Both are about being creative, and taking the course of your life into your own hands.

Or as another teacher has said, “You are a Creator. You didn’t come forth to put your life on pause.”

Empowerment is acting on your nature as a chip off the Divine Old Block – that Old Block being whatever idea you may have of God, Universe or another name you’ve assigned.

Entrepreneurs put this into action by:

  • Experimenting intelligently with a purpose. If you aren’t trying new things, you aren’t learning anything
  • Focusing on the goal. If they get distracted by bright shiny objects, they notice this sooner rather than later, and get back on track
  • Ending the unprofitable, in favor of activities that serve the mission. If a component of the business is dragging the rest down, it has to go, no matter how much fun or interesting it may be
  • Balancing current needs with future opportunities. If there are no new ideas in the pipeline, entrepreneurs know that the larger, established business will eventually dry up, due to ongoing change. This has never been truer than now, in our current economy

As entrepreneurs seem to know instinctively – and we all can learn – whatever you think about expands. A lively and curious mind, tempered with practicality, will keep a business moving forward. Challenges become another place to test one’s creativity and skill.

Every year is the Year of the Big E.
